Good Morning San Jacinto College Community,

This has been a week of crunch time and of celebrations!

Last Friday evening, we celebrated employees with the 27th Annual Service Awards Banquet.  This event recognized employees with 10 years to 40 years (in five year increments) for their service to San Jacinto College.   Three employees were recognized for 40 years of service (Deborah Anderson, Helen LaCour, and Michael Varnell)!  Congratulations to the 108 employees who were recognized that evening!! Good Afternoon San Jacinto College Community,

May has passed and so has graduation.  This year at our college-wide commencement ceremony, 795 students walked across the stage with 9,570 guests in the audience.  What a wonderful turnout! Over the last two academic years, we have awarded more than 5,000 degrees and certificates each year. We hope that we can reach 6,000 degrees and certificates awarded in an academic year by 2019! Interestingly, last year nearly 1,000 students earned multiple credentials in the same year.

May was a busy month and this update will highlight the legislative session, a recent land purchase made by San Jacinto College, and board members. Read the rest of this entry »

Hello San Jacinto College!

What an exciting year 2014 has been! And it sure went by quickly! This weekend is graduation, and then the holiday season is in full swing! I hope each of you have had a great year. It’s been so rewarding watching all of the things happening on our campuses to help our students succeed.

As we wrap up the final details of 2014, I wish each of you a happy holiday and a safe and prosperous new year. My digital holiday card this year highlights many, but not all (there are too many!) of the accomplishments we have reached here at San Jacinto College throughout the year. Enjoy!

Have a wonderful Winter break. Thank you again for everything you do for our students as they succeed in achieving their dreams. I appreciate your commitment and your support in continuing to make San Jacinto College an outstanding institution.

Good Afternoon San Jacinto College Community –

The end of the fall semester and calendar year are near. I suspect that everyone is feeling the extra pressure that comes with the busy-ness of this time. It is always a challenge to balance the extra stress, excitement, work load, and time constraints. Add onto that the bizarre temperature swings we are experiencing, from near record highs today to highs in the 40s later this week. Perhaps you can relate to Henry Kissinger who said, “There cannot be a crisis next week.  My schedule is already full.” Hang in there.  The semester is coming to a close soon.

In this Update, I would like to let you know about some important topics that I hope will be helpful for you: Read the rest of this entry »

Weekly Update – May 9, 2010

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers at San Jacinto College!!  I hope each of you enjoyed a day of fun, relaxation, or a combination of both.

One of the great features of San Jacinto College is all the activities and functions that are available on a regular basis, and this week has been jam packed.  I was fortunate enough to attend the Spring Choral Concert at North Campus, swing into the field day for the Emergency Medical Technology Department at the Central Campus, and celebrate the graduation ceremony with the South Campus.  Additionally, on Saturday morning, I welcomed 150 7th and 8th grade young women for a careers conference focused on exploring opportunities in the world of science, technology, engineering, and math. The conference was sponsored by the American Association of University Women and the Society of Women Engineers, with support from numerous San Jacinto College employees and the San Jacinto College Foundation providing lunch and contributing to the gift bags. Weekly Update – May 15, 2009

on May 15, 2009 in Weekly Update | Comments Off on Weekly Update – May 15, 2009

I hope all of you got to enjoy a little of the cooler weather this week-end.

This past week included several celebrations – two graduation ceremonies for North Campus and the 30th Anniversary Reception for South Campus. This anniversary celebration was a great tribute to the successes of our youngest campus!! And for those of you who thought those pictures of the past wouldn’t come back to haunt you, don’t be so sure!

The week started off with a visit from 15 students from the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas in Austin. They spent the morning hearing a variety of presentations on master planning, budget, communications, QEP, Hurricane Ike, student support services, IT, and a variety of other topics. They split into three groups and spent the afternoon at the campuses where I am told they received red carpet tours. They will be writing a report contrasting what they saw and learned at San Jacinto College compared to Houston Community College, Temple College, and Texas State Technical College. I am sure that San Jacinto will be the highlight of the report.
