Good Morning San Jacinto College Community,

This has been a week of crunch time and of celebrations!  

Last Friday evening, we celebrated employees with the 27th Annual Service Awards Banquet.  This event recognized employees with 10 years to 40 years (in five year increments) for their service to San Jacinto College.   Three employees were recognized for 40 years of service (Deborah Anderson, Helen LaCour, and Michael Varnell)!  Congratulations to the 108 employees who were recognized that evening!! Good Morning San Jacinto College Community,

We have seen an unprecedented six weeks here at San Jacinto College. I know many of you are still dealing with difficulties from Harvey.  We are also still in a bit of shock over the sudden loss of Chet Lewis, the College’s Vice Chancellor of Fiscal Affairs, and then last Thursday, we sent out a communication about a fatality at the construction site at the Center for Petrochemical, Energy, and Technology on Central Campus.

I am sending this email to provide a few more details for you so you have correct information on last Thursday’s accident. An employee of a subcontractor was struck by a truck operated by a contractor.  Subcontractors are a standard process of the construction process, and they operate under the College’s general contractor for the project. Good afternoon San Jacinto College Community!

We would like to extend an opportunity for all employees, full-time and part-time, to attend the Aspen Rising Star Award celebration on May 5, 2017. Additional instructions and information will be supplied to College leaders next week in order to facilitate the coordination of schedules and office coverage to allow participation by employees that wish to attend the event. The first place prize went to Lake Area Technical Institute which is located in Watertown, SD.
This institution received $600,000.
