The San Jacinto College administration is monitoring Tropical Depression Harvey that has formed in the Gulf of Mexico. This tropical weather will affect our region beginning on Friday and will last throughout the weekend. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for our area, including Fort Bend, Harris and Galveston Counties. San Jacinto College is open for normal business operations.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours. At this time, the National Weather Service in Houston – Galveston is predicting heavy rainfall and flooding across portions of Texas into early next week.

Any necessary communication regarding the weather will be sent to employees and students through email, and SJC AlertMe will be activated. Information will also be kept up-to-date on the College website at sanjac.edu, on the emergency notification line at 1-888-845-5288, and through the College’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts. Now is a good time to review your contact information in the system. Please login to SOS and click on the red SJC AlertMe tab, or visit sanjac.edu/alert-me.

Students and employees should closely monitor this forecast daily and prepare for tropical weather conditions later this week. You are encouraged to have your own individual plan for tropical weather for you and your family. If you are driving and get caught in rising floodwaters, do not drive through.
