Good Afternoon San Jacinto College Community,

Today, I would like to provide you updates on three items:

  1. New benefit cost structure for employees hired effective August 1, 2019
  2. Strategic planning items
  3. Celebration luncheons planned for May 3, 2019

New Benefit Cost Structure:

At the April 8, 2019 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the creation of a new benefit cost structure that will be implemented effective on August 1, 2019. This will only affect employees who begin full-time employment, or are rehired as full-time employees, with the College after July 31, 2019.

As we continue to prepare for the future, we know San Jacinto College’s financial health and fiscal sustainability are critical to ensuring that we continue to serve our community well in the coming decades. As part of our routine sustainability and cost review, we are always looking at operations and current and past practices.

Good afternoon San Jacinto College community,

As you all are aware, the last few days have presented a very fluid situation as a result of the tank farm fire at the Intercontinental Terminal Company in Deer Park. The health and safety of our College community and surrounding neighbors is of utmost importance. I understand that many of you have concerns, and I want you to know that we are closely monitoring the situation. Our Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is in constant contact with the OEMs in Deer Park, Pasadena, Harris County, and surrounding communities so that we have the most up-to-date information to share with you.

Good Evening San Jacinto College Community,

At tonight’s Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved a new simplified tuition model that will go into effect with the Fall 2019 semester. This new model eliminates registration and enrollment-related fees to provide a simpler tuition structure that will make it easier for students to calculate the cost of their classes without additional fees added during the registration process.

The simplified tuition model is based on a tuition rate per semester credit hour and is charged at registration based on the student residency classification, again, with no added fees.

Good Morning San Jacinto College Community!

Stephen Trncak, Vice Chancellor, Human Resources (VCHR) has announced his intent to retire effective at the end of December 2018, after 10 years of service to San Jacinto College. I would like to thank Stephen for his service to the College and as the VCHR for his leadership as the strategic architect in providing the College with a human resources plan for organizational sustainability. Steve has been a champion for the people side of the College, and he has focused the Human Resources Department (HR) on recruiting, retaining, and developing our employees. on September 18, 2018 in Weekly Update | Comments Off on Update – September 18, 2018

Good Morning San Jacinto College Community,

Today (September 18th) is an important date in history for San Jacinto College.  At 8:30 a.m. on September 18, 1961, San Jacinto College opened its doors in an old store front in downtown Pasadena to register its first students.  History has it that the lines formed on the sidewalks of downtown Pasadena long before the doors opened, and that registration continued until 10:00 p.m. that evening.  The tally at the end of the registration period on that first day was that more than 700 students had enrolled.  By the end of the week, enrollment reached 876 students. With this, San Jacinto College set a record for first year enrollment for Texas junior colleges, and the total was the second largest first year enrollment for all Texas colleges.

Good afternoon San Jacinto College Community,

I hope you are enjoying the summer and finding time to take vacation.  Many people seem to think that those of us in higher education do not work in the summer, and I always have to chuckle over that because there is tremendous activity this time of year at San Jacinto College. But I hope with all of that busy-ness that you find some down time and do a few fun things this summer with family and friends!  Or maybe just a break at home or on the beach.  And don’t forget to stay cool and hydrated!
