Dear San Jacinto College employees,

I know you are receiving many extensive emails. They will continue over the next few days.   It is critical that you read through these emails even though they are long.  We are working through all our processes to get the College open and the fall semester started.  Both employees and students are asking a lot of questions, and we are working through them to develop answers. We are communicating the answers through these emails.  There are many details to work through so I appreciate your patience in reading through all of them. Also know that we are in a time where things may change as additional information or situations evolve. Read the rest of this entry »

10:40 AM

Dear San Jacinto College students,

I hope that you are all holding up after the magnitude of this last week. As your chancellor, I want to provide you with information about the re-opening of San Jacinto College and the first day of the fall semester.

First, classes will begin on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Second, I know many of you have questions and I have been advised of several that have been received on our College social media sites and at our contact center. I have asked our staff to draft a list of the frequently asked questions (FAQs) along with answers to those questions as we know them right now. I know that some of the responses to the FAQs ask you to contact us and discuss the questions in greater detail. We will have student services, financial aid, and  business office personnel available for your questions on Tuesday, September 5 from 1 to 8 p.m.  Please be patient as they work to help each student.

For students who cannot make it to a campus, you can speak with a contact center agent by calling 281-998-6150 or by email at information@sjcd.edu. Again, I ask that you please be patient as there could be longer than usual wait times due to an anticipated high call volume.

I know that the weeks ahead are going to be difficult for many of you, but as a student of San Jacinto College, you are important to us! As you return to campus, please speak with our College employees as you continue to work through the recovery process.

In order to help our employees and students who have been affected by Harvey, we have established an emergency relief fund through the San Jacinto College Foundation. Any amount you can donate will assist in providing relief during these difficult times. Information about how to apply for grants and the amount to be distributed will be posted contingent upon donations received.

We are all in this together and together we will overcome the obstacles in front of us. We look forward to having you back on campus on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brenda Hellyer

Chancellor, San Jacinto College
