Weekly Update – November 15, 2009

Three days of this past week were spent working with the San Jacinto College’s Achieving the Dream coaches, Dr. Byron McClenney and Dr. Brad Philips.  McClenney is the project director of the national Achieving the Dream initiative. He’s had a 43 year career as an educator including 33 years as a president/chancellor at several community colleges including the Community College of Denver, Kingsborough Community College, and Alamo Community College District. Phillips is the founder and Executive Director of Cal-PASS, an initiative that collects, analyzes and shares student data in order to track performance and improve success from elementary school through university; more than 6,800 schools and colleges participate in Cal-PASS. I am thrilled that the College has their expertise working with us.

Weekly Update – November 8, 2009

The first week of November is gone and can you believe we are moving into the last weeks of the fall semester plus the holiday season is kicking off!!  Don’t let it stress you, take a few deep breaths and stay focused on our priority—students.  Thanksgiving is just around the corner and will be a good break for all of us.

Weekly Update – November 1, 2009

We are welcoming a wonderful November 1st day and what about that extra hour we gained this morning! I hope you have enjoyed some fun this weekend; between trick and treating and festivals, there are lots of options! On Friday evening, my family and I attended the children’s festival at South Campus. It was a fun event with costumes, games, music, and rides. The Student Life Department hosted  a wonderful event for the community.
